Only about one-fourth of registered voters in Martin County went to the polls for the Primary Tuesday, June 2nd, with few contested races. Incumbent GOP Commissioner Aaron “Moose” Summers was nominated by his party over challenger Jon Richer, while incumbent Commissioner Kevin Boyd was defeated by Cody Roush.
Clerk Gerald Montgomery reported no major problems in the Primary voting as only 1,920 of those registered cast their ballots, for a 25.61 percent turnout. There were a total of 7,497 registered to vote in the Primary.
In Martin County, 698 voted absentee, while four years ago there were 624 voting by that method.
For District 3 Commissioner, incumbent Aaron “Moose” Summers defeated Jon Richer by 238 votes, 740 to 502. In District 1, incumbent Commissioner Kevin Boyd was defeated in the Primary by Cody Roush by 426 votes, 858 to 432.
