The Loogootee School Board unanimously hired Dr. Brian Harmon on Thursday, February 17th, as the new Superintendent for Loogootee schools.

This was also the last school board meeting for current Superintendent Chip Mehaffey, who came to Loogootee in 2014 as High School Principal and in 2016 was promoted to Superintendent. Mehaffey announced in September 2021 he would be taking a position with Athletes in Action, a Christian ministry, based in Dayton, Ohio.

Dr. Brian Harmon will begin his duties at Loogootee on March 1st. Board President Chad Wade said the new Superintendent has an initial three-year contract, with a salary the first year of $115,000.

Harmon comes to Loogootee with more than 20 years of experience as a Superintendent. He is currently at Princeton, where he has been Superintendent for more than 11 years. Before that, he was at Shoals for three years and Barr-Reeve for 10 years.

His career in education began in North Putnam Community Schools as a science teacher. He also taught at Springs Valley before beginning his administrative career as an Elementary Principal at Shoals.
