Dr. Joan Keller Named “Gene Shaw Citizen OfThe Year” At Chamber Of Commerce Banquet

 

The Martin County Chamber of Commerce held their annual banquet on Thursday, March 17th, at the St. John Center, at Loogootee. Over 150 attended the dinner, which featured Glenda Ritz, Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction, as the speaker. Dr. Joan Keller, who is retiring as the Loogootee School Superintendent at the end of this school year, was honored with the “Gene Shaw Citizen of the Year Award.” Keller was formerly Superintendent at Shoals, and has a career in education spanning some 43 years. Shown, from left to right, are State Superintendent Glenda Ritz, John Simmons, who recently ended 48 years as a school bus driver at Loogootee, and has been Minister at the Mt. Zion Church for 28 years; Dr. Joan Keller, and Loogootee Mayor Noel Harty, President of the Chamber, who served as Master of Ceremonies.
