David A. Tuszynski, age 70, of Mitchell, Indiana, passed away at his residence on Monday, January 6, 2020.

He was born on November 10, 1949, in New Carlisle, Indiana, to Raphael and Irene A. (Bartkowiak) Tuszynski. He married Dorothy S. Hopkins on September 8, 1981 and she preceded him in death on December 21, 2016.

David received his B.S. in Agronomics and Soil Sciences from Purdue University. He was a soil scientist for the Indiana State Department of Health, was a soil mapper for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and was a member of the Indiana Registry of Soil Scientist and the Association of Professional Soil Classifiers. He hosted many “Playing in the dirt” sessions for the staff of the local Indiana Department of Health. He was of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include one son, Richard Holt and wife Nina, of Williams; Ruth Conrad and husband Mike, of French Lick; and Brenda Murray and husband Victor, of Jasper; nine grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; and a cousin, Leo C. Szymanowski.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, and one sister and brother-in-law, Emily Lucille and Tom Bybee.

A funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 11th, at the Queen-Lee Chapel, in Shoals, of the Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, Inc.

Burial was made in the Spring Hill Cemetery, at Shoals.

Visitation was held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
