Fred L. Woods, age 100, of Jasper, Indiana, formerly of Shoals, died on Thursday, September 2, 2021.
Fred, son of Charles Nelson and Aurelia Wilson Woods, husband of Florence Baker Woods, passed away at St. Charles Health Campus.
He was born on February 26, 1921, in Orange County, North Carolina.
Fred, a World War II Veteran, worked in Martin County as a Soil Conservation Technician until his retirement. He was kn-own statewide as a public speaker and advocate for natural resource conservation and received many awards for his work in service and contribution to natural resources. After retirement, he became a tree planter, planting numerous trees in Martin County. He was a Christian faith.
Fred was honored by the community in 2006 as the Catfish Festival Grand Marshal.
He is survived by his wife, Florence; one son, Greg and wife Joan; two daughters, Sylvia and husband Andrew, and Ina and husband Rick. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Frances; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; ten siblings; wife, Dora; and daughter, Diana.
Due to the pandemic, it was Fred’s wishes that no service be planned at this time. A memorial service will be considered at a later date.
The Queen-Lee Chapel, in Shoals, of the Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, Inc., was in charge of the arrangements.
