John Elmer Wagler, age 74, of Loogootee, Indiana, passed away at 6:21 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2020, at his home.

He was born on May 17, 1945, in Daviess County, Indiana, to the late Fred D. and Martha (Graber) Wagler.

Elmer was a member of Providence Mennonite Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia (Gingerich) Wagler; sons, Randy Wagler and wife Marla, and Nolan Wagler and wife Lynn, of Loogootee; step-children, Janet Bechtel and husband Brian, of Crawfordsville; Marilyn McCullough and husband Kelly, of Washington; and Doug Wagler and wife Tina, of Katy, Texas; grandchildren, Megan, Jacob, and Maranda Wagler and Kaylynn, Hayden, and Madisyn Wagler; step-grandchildren, Brandon McCullough, Kaylee Ramsey and husband Trey, Darren Bechtel and wife Kylie, Dalton Bechtel and wife Morgan, Abby and Olivia Wagler; four step-great-grandchildren; siblings, Fannie Knepp, Ervin Wagler and wife Mary, Clara Yoder and husband Alva, Fred Wagler and wife Rita, Laura Swartzerntruber and husband Don, Rudy Wagler and Jeannie Guinn and husband Mike; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn Kay Wagler; one son, Bradley Wagler; grandson, Brandon Wagler; and brother-in-law, Elmer Knepp.

A funeral service was conducted at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, January 6th, at the Providence Mennonite Church, in Montgomery. Burial followed in the Berea Mennonite Cemetery.

Visitation was held on Sunday, January 5th, from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Providence Mennonite Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Barr-Reeve High School Scholarship Foundation in memory of Brandon Wagler.

Arrangements were provided by the Blake & Wagler Funeral Home, in Montgomery.
