Joseph “Joe” Robert Weikert, age 88, of West Baden Springs, Indiana, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, October 20, 2019.
He was found on his property following a tractor accident.
He was born in Dubois, Indiana, on June 13, 1931, to John W. and Elizabeth (Nolan) Weikert, the oldest of 8 children. Joe married Katy Mitchell on April 10, 2011.
Joe was a graduate of Dubois High School Class of 1949, a member of the Red Quarry Christian Church, and attended the Mitchell Wesleyan Church, in Mitchell, Indiana, with his wife Katy. He supported Katy in all her many endeavors and was well-known for his strong work ethic. He loved the outdoors, working in his flower beds, maintaining the farm or clearing snow in the Winter. Joe rarely sat down to take a break. He enjoyed photography, had a vast knowledge of nature, and had a servant’s heart but most of all, loved his family dearly.
He was an Electronic Technician at Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division for over 30 years and served his country proudly during the Vietnam and Korean Wars in the United States Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Katy Weikert, of West Baden Springs; one daughter, Deanne Burden and husband Gary, of Evansville; grandchildren, Jennifer Dunlap and husband Aaron, of Evansville; Phillip Burden and wife Rae Ann, of Santa Claus; and Jonathan Burden and wife Elizabeth, of Evansville; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold Weikert and wife Geri, of Dubois; and David “Buster” Weikert and wife Dolly, of Crystal; and two sisters, Martha Emge and husband Larry, of Martinsville; and Mary Cobb, of Mansfield, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Newland; two brothers, James and George Weikert; and one sister, Annabelle Beck.
A funeral ceremony was conducted by Brother Joe Crow and Reverend Darrel Land at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 25th, at the Brosmer-Kemple Funeral Home, in French Lick.
Burial was made in the Crystal Community Cemetery.
Visitation was held on Thursday, October 24th, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home and on Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
