Mary Lou Eckert, age 76, of Birdseye, and formerly of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away at 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at her home.

She was born on July 5, 1943, in Huntingburg, to John Edward and Pauline (Abell) Steffen. Mary Lou married Eddie Dale Eckert on June 29, 1963, at the First Pentecostal Church, in Birdseye, where she was a lifelong member.

Mary Lou graduated from Birdseye High School in 1962, and enjoyed crafting and attending flea markets.

Survivors include three sons, Todd Eckert, of Shoals; Brian Eckert, of Evansville; and Pastor Bret Eckert and wife Erica, of Birdseye; her mother, Pauline Steffen, of Birdseye; one brother, Carl Steffen and wife Frances, of Birdseye; five grandchildren, Dustin, Caden, Danielle, Austin and Felecia; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband October 17, 2013; her father; and one daughter, Carla Michelle “Missy” Eckert.

A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 27th, at the First Pentecostal Church, in Birdseye, with Brother Jerry Cottrell officiating the service.

Burial followed at the Mentor Cemetery.

Visitation was held at the Nass & Son Funeral Home, in Huntingburg, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 26th, and also at the church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service on Saturday.
