Norma Jean Purkhiser, age 58, formerly of Shoals, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2020, at 2:43 p.m., at the Daviess Community Hospital, in Washington, Indiana.

She was born on December 2, 1961 to Mary V. (Abel) Purkhiser and Virgil E. Purkhiser and both have preceded her in death.

Norma is survived by her cousin and guardian Terri Alcorn, her children, and many cousins and friends.

Norma was employed as a teacher for several years and also worked at Crane Naval Base. She spent most of her life living on their small farm in Lost River Township. She had spent the last few years living at The Legends, in Washington, and making many friends along the way. Her passions included playing the piano and writing songs. Norma was strong in her faith and she was proud of where she was from. Norma made friends wherever she went and loved being surrounded by people. She will be missed by many.

A funeral service will be held this Saturday, August 1st, at 2:00 p.m. at the Queen-Lee Chapel, in Shoals, of the Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, Inc.

Burial will follow at the Waggoner Chapel Cemetery.

Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until the service time on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Martin County Humane Society, 507 N. Oak Street, Loogootee, Indiana 47553.
