Ruth M. (Anthus) Smith, age 91, formally of Loogootee, passed away Monday, September 7, 2020, at St. Charles Place, in Jasper.

She was born February 25, 1929, in Martin County, Indiana, to Homer and Ethel (Crane) Anthus. She married Leland R. Smith on December 15, 1950 in Ft. Lewis, Washington. He preceded her in death in September of 1989.  

Ruth was a graduate of St. John Catholic High School, in Loogootee, was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Jasper, and was a homemaker. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt.  

Surviving are three daughters, Deborah (Dana) Abshier, of Indianapolis; Joy (Ralph) Ausbrooks, of Shoals; and LaDonna (George) Raney, of Loogootee; six grandchildren, Deena Albin, Joshua Ausbrooks, Richard Smith, Lyndsey Inman, Molly Raney, and Casey Raney. Ten great-grandchildren also survive.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters, Violet, Mary, Veronica, and Frances; three brothers, Kenneth, Jerome, and Lester; and one great-grandchild, Braylyn Inman.  

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, September 10th, at the Queen-Lee Chapel, in Shoals, with Father Andrew Thomas and Jim Lilly officiating.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.  

Burial will be in the St. John Cemetery, in Loogootee.
