Wilma Ruth Mitchell, age 91, of Lake Placid, Florida, passed away Monday, August 31, 2020.

She was born on October 10, 1928, in Shoals, Indiana, to Lessie and Ira Andis.

Ruth previously lived in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; Louisville, Kentucky; and Vincennes, Indiana.

She worked in the food service industry and owned and operated several restaurants. She was an active member of Placid Lakes Baptist Church.

She was loved by all who knew her. No one will forget Ruth’s smile and caring heart. She will be greatly missed but we know you rest in the arms of Jesus our Loving Savior.

Survivors include one sister, Sara Barnes; one brother, Ken Andis; daughter-in-law, Kathryn Mitchell; grandson, Jeremy Mitchell and his wife Jennifer; great-grandchildren, Emily Mitchell and Ethan Mitchell, and several other great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews; and a dear friend, Annamaria Ponsler, whom loved her dearly.

Preceding her in death were her husband, James Edward Mitchell; sons, Steven James Mitchell and Daniel Edward Mitchell; brothers, Samuel Andis, Eugene Andis, and Richard Andis; sisters, Viva Comrack and Georgia Holcomb; and one granddaughter, Sherri Mitchell.

A memorial service to celebrate Ruth’s life was held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 6th, at the First Baptist Church of Placid Lakes. Pastor Jeff Taylor officiated the service.

A graveside service was held on Friday, September 4th, at the Oak Hill Cemetery, in Lake Placid.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ruth Mitchell’s memory to the First Baptist Church of Placid Lakes, 116 Cleveland Avenue, NE, Placid Lakes, Lake Placid, FL 33852 or Good Shepherd Hospice, 1110 Hammock Road, Sebring, FL 33870.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Scott Funeral Home, in Lake Placid, Florida.
